The
world's first hillclimb race took place in Chanteloup Les Vignes - near
Paris - in 1898. Mr Patrick Delage, grandson of the french Delage motor company and citizen of Chanteloup les Vignes managed ten years ago to create a "revival" of this historic event. This revival (not a race, the streets are no longer compliants with any motor sport rule). As the original race, it starts from the church downtown, and goes across the street up to the Hautil woods. It ran all the week before this day of june 3rd, but the weather was hot and sunny right on time. Among 55 participants, many came from the other side of the channel (16 englishes and 3 irishes) with a lot of english cars : Alvis, Lagonda, Aston Martin, Austin, Riley, Wolseley.... |
